Locks and chains

The church at Orcival. A notice explains the chains fastened to the wall:
The balls and chains which have hung on the wall of the south transept for centuries are a reminder that Our Lady of Orcival is invoked under the name of Our Lady of Irons. People prayed to her for the return of captives and prisoners. Those who returned from their captivity offered their chains to Our Lady in gratitude and as votive offerings. Note above the door, above the XII on the dial of the clock, a virgin with child from the sixteenth century: a chained man is on his knees praying to the virgin for his release.
I was more taken with the ancient locks on the door.
